
PhD student - Molecular Biology Research in glioma biology (m/f/d)
wanted for the next possible date at the Neurology in the research group of Dr. Sevin Turcan and Dr. Marilin Koch in full-time.
Our lab studies the biology of lower grade glioma and glioblastoma with a distinct focus on IDH mutations, aiming at determining factors influencing the IDH-dependent gliomagenesis and malignant progression.
The lab is integrated into the department of Neurology of Heidelberg University Hospital, which is a leading center for research in Neuro-oncology and provides numerous training opportunities with access to cutting-edge techniques. The location in Heidelberg offers state-of-the-art infrastructure in a highly collaborative environment (NCT, DKFZ and EMBL Heidelberg).

Your Tasks
- The PhD student will work in a team of enthusiastic biologists and medical scientists studying the impact of epigenetic dysregulation on IDH-dependent gliomagenesis and malignant transformation
- Perform CRISPR interference and other CRISPR technologies
- Generate and analyze Next-Generation-Sequencing data
- Responsible for planning and performing of experiments in the framework of the scientific project plan
- Preparation and presentation of project reports and publications
Your Profile
- Bachelor or master’s degree in biology or biochemistry
- Broad expertise in basic cell-molecular and biochemical techniques (Western blotting, gene expression analysis, cloning, cell culture, lentiviral transductions, flow cytometry, microscopy etc.), experience in NGS data analysis, CRISPR technologies, RNA interference
- Experience in writing scientific reports and papers
- Very good knowledge of and experience with MS office, graphic programs, statistical software, bioinformatics tools and online tools (e.g. Illustrator, Lightroom, GraphPadPrism, R)
- Highly reliable, organized and motivated team player
- Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English
