as of 01.01.2025 at the Center for Internal Medicine in the Clinic for Cardiology, Angiology, Pulmonology within the Professorship for “Precision Medicine and Digital Health”.
We are a dynamic and forward-looking team with currently >20 employees. In addition to equipment for whole genome and other omics analyses, the working group has its own data center for processing big data using the latest deep learning and AI-based methods. The focus is on researching the causes and new therapies for heart muscle diseases, in the context of which we have set up CRISPR-Cas gene repair programs, among other things. In our own study center, such innovations can be tested early for clinical applications.
Pre-doctoral (M.Sc and Ph.D) positions are open at the Professorship of Precision Digital Health at the University Hospital Heidelberg. We are open to applicants who are enthusiastic and motivated to work in a multidisciplinary research team. Our team is focused on the identification of molecular mechanisms of cardiomyopathies and related heart diseases utilizing genomic and molecular techniques. For Ph.D positions, candidates with a M.Sc degree in a biomedical and related disciplines and for M.Sc positions candidates with a B.Sc degree in a biomedical and related disciplines with excellent English communications skills are preferred.

Your Tasks
- Responsible planning and implementation of experiments within the framework of the scientific project plan
- Develop and establish new methods in the laboratory to enable new research approaches
- Support bioinformatic analysis and clinically focused interpretation of multiomics data sets
- Use an existing scientific and clinical network to further develop your research
- Support other scientists and doctors in their research projects
- Participation in scientific events with your own contributions is expressly desired
Your Profile
- We are looking for highly motivated candidates with genuine curiosity and passion for science
- Completed university degree in natural sciences (specializing in biology, molecular medicine, molecular biology)
- Sound knowledge of standard molecular genetic methods such as Western blot, PCR/qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry and cell culture. Experience with CRISPR-based methods is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of data analysis, e.g. using biostatistical software such as GraphPad Prism. Knowledge of the programming language R, Python or other methods for evaluating large data sets is an advantage
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Strong analytical thinking, ability to work in a team, independence and sense of responsibility
