wanted for the start on February 1, 2025 at the Department Infectious Disease and Tropical Medicine (IDTM).

Who we are: The Department of Infectious Disease and Tropical Medicine at Heidelberg University Hospital has a clinical and research mandate. The department is embedded in a research-active university campus (incl. the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health). On the research side, we are a diverse team of people from around the globe, all passionate about global health, trying to make a difference for people living in resource-limited settings by improving diagnostic solutions (www.denkglobaldx.org).  

For the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded research project “Expanding R2D2 TB Diagnostic Network for Open PCR and Screening” led by Prof. Claudia M. Denkinger and Dr. Seda Yerlikaya, we are looking to hire a Scientific Project Lead. The position will be based in Heidelberg, Germany; partially remote work will be possible.

Your tasks

  • Conduct research on diagnostic technologies, companies, and products, employing innovative strategies to support the discovery and development of new diagnostic tools.
  • Build networks, analyse data, and contribute to database improvements, publications, and presentations to enhance diagnostic technology initiatives.
  • Plan, allocate resources, schedule, and oversee all aspects of the project lifecycle to ensure successful execution.
  • Monitor project progress to meet deadlines and budget constraints while ensuring effective communication among team members and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategies for publishing and sharing research results within scholarly communities and the broader public.

Your Profile

  • Post graduate knowledge in a relevant field (e.g., Biomedical Science, Epidemiology) and at least 2 years’ experience in planning, execution, and analysis of global health projects (preferably, experience in diagnostic development in industry)
  • Strong skills in planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and progress monitoring to manage projects effectively from inception to completion
  • In-depth understanding of infectious diseases and related public health issues, diagnostic tools, emerging technologies, and trends in the field
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills to coordinate teams, engage with stakeholders, and disseminate research findings to both technical and non-technical audience
  • Proven ability to publish research in peer-reviewed journals and effectively communicate results to broader audiences, enhancing the impact of diagnostic innovations.
