The Climate Change and Health Intervention group at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH) is seeking a Biostatistician – Clinical Trials to work on multiple international research projects in climate change adaptation.
Led by Dr Aditi Bunker, the Climate Change and Health Intervention research group comprises post-doctoral researchers, biostatisticians and epidemiologists working on multiple global projects to evaluate the health impacts of climate change adaptation, particularly to reduce heat in buildings in low and middle income countries affected by rising temperatures.

Your Tasks
- Manage the primary research components of pragmatic randomized control trials, including designing and implementing trial methodology and data collection instruments, recruitment strategy, statistical analysis plan, study database, and data quality assurance in close collaboration with research partners
- Calculate the necessary sample size and power calculations for projects
- Lead the statistical analysis and write up the statistical report for randomized control trials
- Author Statistical Analysis Plans and Data Management Plans for randomized control trials
- Perform complex statistical analyses using the appropriate software (SAS, Stata, R)
- Independently manage all statistical aspects of a project
- Create and manage secure databases and implement data quality monitoring processes
- Contribute to the dissemination of scientific findings through writing manuscripts and presenting at conferences
- Responsible for clinical and translational study methodologies
- Give advice on the design of studies of research projects, when needed
- Propose innovative and adequate design for randomized control trials
- Help develop funding applications and research protocols
- Comply with all institute policies as well as regulatory requirements for the programming, analysis and reporting of randomized control trials
Your Profile
- PhD in statistics, biostatistics or epidemiological methods
- Previous professional experience of at least 5 years in a similar position
- Experience in the design and analysis of clinical trials is mandatory with demonstrated skills in the use of statistical programming tools for data management, analysis and visualization, such as Stata, R or Python
- Experience drafting manuscripts with published first author papers
- Excellent knowledge of causal inference including experimental and quasi-experimental study designs
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to adapt to a dynamic environment, in full autonomy. Self-motivated, constructive positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to work with global remote team
- Language skills: Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English, command of German is desired
