Bioinformatician (m/f/d) for Single-Cell-RNA-Data Analysis

As soon as possible searchedfor the Institute for Computational Biomedicine at Heidelberg University, in the group of Prof. Julio Saez-Rodriguez. The position will be part of a group of bioinformaticians, together with EMBL (Korbel group) and DKFZ (Stegle/Buchhalter), and funded by the Baden-Württemberg BioDaten initative.

The position is initially limited to two years. The salary is based on collective agreement federal state (TV-L).

Tasks and responsibilities

We are looking for a bioinformatician to process and analyze single-cell data, with a focus on data management workflows for single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data. The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary research team developing and applying a diverse range of state-of-the-art methodology to improve the analysis and integration of various data types with a focus on single-cell data. He/she will apply bioinformatics and statistical methods to analyze, interpret and integrate high-throughput (scRNA-seq) data,. The position can involve both collaborative involvement in research-centric single-cell projects and/or infrastructure research and development.

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Establishment of clinical omics-data analysis and integration workflows
  • Collaboration, experimental design and analysis of clinical single-cell projects
  • Infrastructure development, data management and/or integrative/interactive data visualization of multiple omics data
  • Development of cloud-based analysis workflows
Profile

The successful applicant will hold at least a Master (ideally also a doctoral degree or equivalent qualification) in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, and/or engineering, or a degree in biological science with demonstrated experience in computational biology/bioinformatics.

Previous experience in developing and applying computational methods applied to large datasets is expected. Expertise in the analysis of next-generation sequencing datasets is beneficial, as is communicating results in scientific conferences and papers.

We especially seek candidates with prior experience in the analysis and the management of NGS data. Proficiency with relevant scripting languages, and statistical data analysis tools such as R, MATLAB or Python is required.

The ideal applicant should have demonstrated the ability to work independently and creatively. (S)he should have excellent communications skills and be able to articulate clearly the scientific and technical needs, set clear goals and work within an interdisciplinary setting, communicating with other partners.
