Job Description
We are investigating inverse problems in cardiology, in particular the automatic diagnosis of underlying mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmia. Our approach is based on mathematical modeling of electrophysiology, optimization, and machine learning. The two positions shall continue research that has already led to one patent and publications and can be combined with a PhD or a postdoctoral project. The exact topics will be jointly decided between the project leaders, Prof. Eberhard Scholz (Cardiology, Heidelberg), PD Dr. Andreas Potschka (Optimization, Heidelberg), and Prof. Sebastian Sager (Optimization, Magdeburg and Heidelberg) and the candidates. Tasks
  • Develop and optimize numerical algorithms
  • Implement machine learning approaches
  • Validate results using clinical data
Required Qualifications
  • An excellent Master or Diploma degree in Mathematics, Medicine, Computer Science, Medicine, Theoretical Physics, Theoretical Biology, or Engineering.
  • A strong and documented background in at least one of the following areas: mathematical optimization, cardiology, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics

Advantageous

  • Knowledge in computational cardiology, mathematical optimization and artificial intelligence
  • Programming skills
  • Interdisciplinary research experience in the intersection between mathematics and medicine
What we offer

We offer participation in a highly motivated interdisciplinary research team with a well-established cooperation and longstanding experience in scientific research. The workload is negotiable (50%, 75%, or 100%). The contract is for three years with the possibility of an extension after a reevaluation of the project.
